My Tour of Condé Nast Traveler in NYC

E-mail Print PDF

Today, I visited every travel writer/blogger's Mecca: the Condé Nast Traveler office.

Jenny and Joe with the Lexus LS F Sport

Jill, Joe and I were greeted this morning at the Trump SoHo by the arrival of our car, the 2013 Lexus LS F Sport. What a beautiful car! We posed for some photos outside the hotel and then entered the car for our trip uptown to the Condé Nast Building, located at 4 Times Square. We relished the comforting quiet inside of the Lexus LS F Sport, in the midst of the busy hubbub of the New York streets. Our view was filled with break lights and the myriad yellow taxi cabs, dotting the landscape like blobs of paint in a piece by Van Gogh. I asked our driver, Tommie, what his favorite feature on the Lexus was. Without hesitation, he said it was the rims and the navigation joystick. He said it was so easy to use and much better than a conventional mouse.

We pulled up at Times Square and stared in awe at the Condé Nast Building. Our point of contact, Sara, took us up to the 4th floor cafeteria where we settled in with a cup of coffee and had the pleasure of meeting with Hanya Yanagihara, the Editor at Large. Jill and I took an immediate liking to Hanya, and how could you not! She is incredibly well-spoken and yet so warm and fun, with a decided amount of spunk to her. She just finished her marathon tour of Asia that she is documenting for the April issue, and we had the chance to pick her brain about travel theory, practices, and the best things to see and experience in Buenos Aires and Punte del Este, Uruguay. She is effortlessly chic and professional, and yet so real. Her looming deadline forced our time to be short, but we were so privileged to have met her! We can't wait to read about her Asia tour. Seriously, it's insane what she did in that amount of time.

Next, Sara took us upstairs to the
Condé Nast Traveler floor, where we toured the different departments and glimpsed "where the magic happens". We also had the pleasure of meeting Yung Moon, associate publisher of marketing & creative services.

Bubby's in TriBeCaWe hopped back in the Lexus LS F Sport and headed south again for TriBeCa, where we ate a late lunch at Bubby's, a pie-shop-turned-cafe. We ordered a variety of menu items, including brunch and salads.

Our time in New York City has drawn to a close...now it's time to head to JFK, where Jill will head back to Cincinnati, and Joe and I will take the red-eye flight to Buenos Aires. Now I just need my sleep mask and an Ambien. Tomorrow, I'll be living it up at the Four Seasons, BA. Not bad.
